Meeting of Union Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of NUG with UN special Envoy to Myanmar

Dr. Win Myat Aye, Union Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of National Unity Government, and Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, the UN Special Envoy for Myanmar, have met through the video conferencing at MMT 11:30am on May 5, 2022.
During the meeting, the issues related to medical and humanitarian aid to the IDPs, reinstatement of the democratically elected people’s government (NUG), constructive dialogues among all parties, immediate cessation of violence and conflicts, release of political prisoners and regional and international assistance to Myanmar were discussed.
Firstly, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye explained the public service activities carried out by the ministry. Then Dr. Heyzer discussed that all parties were urged to talk about the ways of international support on effective distribution of emergency humanitarian aid to IDPs.
The staff of Ministry involved in humanitarian activities on ground also attended the meeting and explained about the challenges and ground situations. Dr. Heyzer agreed that IDPs on the ground would effectively receive the aid only by the people-centred approaches and discussed openly about the high priority assignments during her upcoming trip to Myanmar.
Furthermore, Dr. Heyzer mentioned she had made the announcement on May 3,2022 regarding important points for discussion at the Consultative Meeting on ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar held on 6 May 2022. In the announcement, it was emphasized that following the international humanitarian law should be of utmost importance when executing humanitarian assistance including cross-border assistance.
