
Myanmar people’s government efforts during its administration had shown great improvements in the opportunities and rights of people with disabilities. During the administration, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye attended the Global Disability Summit 2018 held in the United Kingdom and made commitments to the rights of people with disabilities as a representative of the Myanmar government.
Respectively, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye is participating in the Global Disability Summit that was held on 16th and 17th February 2022. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, National Unity Government, is collaborating with the Myanmar Coordination Committee for Equal Rights of People with Disabilities – MCERP, constituted with the aim to protecting the rights of PWDs during the revolutionary period and interim period. At the Global Disability Summit, the Ministry has presented the following commitments to be implemented for the affairs of the Myanmar PWD community.
(i) Equal participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities during the coordination for the formation of the revolutionary/ interim administrations and a federal democratic union in the future
(ii) Making arrangements on leaving no persons with disabilities behind when engaging with the community/people
(iii) Equal participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities during the revolution period for humanitarian and emergency response, social protection, and rehabilitation programs
(iv) Systematic implementation of humanitarian assistance programs ensuring persons with disabilities are included
(v) Mapping of persons with disabilities information according to their geographic region to make necessary planning in prioritisation to rescue persons with disabilities before and during the disasters
(vi) Making sure to reduce physical and attitudinal, communication or institutional barriers for disaster protection and develop policy that ensures disaster preventative measures, infrastructure, systems, and programs in place for implementation
(vii) Ensuring not to exclude persons with disabilities in the course of the forming of the future Federal Union, and extend collaboration to develop socio-economic-multi-sectoral policies based on federalism
