United Nations’ Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator (OCHA) Ms. Joyce Msuya had met up with Dr. Win Myat Aye, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management – NUG, to present and explain the details discussed at the ASEAN Summit held on 6 May 2022. Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations U Kyaw Moe Tun, NUG Ambassador to ASEAN U Bo Hla Tint and NUG Representative to Australia Dr. Tun Aung Shwe had attended this meeting as well.
At the meeting, the following issues were discussed: urgent need for humanitarian aid due to the military’s tyrannical rule, NUG’s efforts to support the citizens who are in need of help and the continued need for ASEAN and other countries’ humanitarian assistance to Myanmar. The importance of adhering the international humanitarian law, protocols and ethics for the effective international humanitarian aid provision to the internally displaced persons were highlighted during the meeting. Various possible methods which were practical and people centred approaches for humanitarian aid provision were also discussed as an agenda of meeting.
