Emergency monetary support for Thantlang, Chin State and coordination for the prompt rehabilitation process

On 29th and 30th October 2021, the military junta’s forces rained down artillery shells and intentionally set fires on civilian houses in Thantlang, Chin State, destroying 164 households including 3 churches and religious buildings. In addition, more than twenty households were destroyed and a pastor died in the tragedy on September 18, 2021. As civilians had to abandon their homes and belongings to escape the atrocities committed by the junta’s forces, humanitarian assistance is urgently needed.
Dr Win Myat Aye, Union Minister of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, has met with representatives of local organisations from Chin State on November 1, 2021, and discussed the arrangements being carried out in coordination with partner organisations for rapid response and aid for internally displaced people. Then, meeting attendees from the Chin State presented the situation about the extent of destruction and emergency needs of the residents.
Subsequently, the Union Minister and team provided emergency monetary support and prayed together with meeting participants for Thantlang.
